Construction activities
Goal: $447,936.78
Raised: $188,772.67
In a short and medium-term perspective, Tubiteho Day Center started its first building that accommodates all of its activities while fundraising for the two remaining ones. Upon completion, Tubiteho Day Center will have three buildings: one for workshop and computer lab, the second for classrooms, and the third one for recreational activities and administration.
Since the Center’s resources and those of its partners are limited, the formula for building the Centre in phases was the most appropriate solution. The availability of the building presented below, therefore, constitutes the 1st phase (First Building in 2018) of a global project where the needs of beneficiaries in the short, medium, as well as long terms, will be addressed.
The 2nd and the 3rd phases are spread over 2 years (2019 and 2020). They will be devoted to the availability of a second and third building mainly used for teaching purposes such as
classrooms, library, and workshops (for the second building) and for administration offices and community use (cafeteria, kitchen, conference, wedding/party hall, etc, for the third building). Swimming pool and Sports Ground for the students and community use as presented in the below plan will be built once the three phases are completed.
The first phase has been already completed while the second and the third phases are not yet done. Like in phase one, the last two phases will involve an architect experienced in building with special and social purposes, particularly attentive to the standards for people with different disabilities, including those with mental disabilities. The issues of accessibility and user safety will thus be among the major parameters to be taken into account both in terms of the design and the construction of the building and surrounding areas. It will be the same for the respect of the environment, the use of renewable energy, and local materials wherever possible in the light of budgetary constraints.
The execution of the project by an experienced contractor/architect with an experienced supervisor. The respect of the agreed deadlines will be a major imperative considering the fact that the realization of the project must be inserted in the schedule of activities of Tubiteho Day Centre. The building will have to be sober, functional, and economic in terms of energy consumption. Its interior space will be designed in a flexible manner to take into account the evolving nature of the institution’s needs.
